ABC Routes: The Port Hills Summit Route

Get the best views in Christchurch through this challenging, yet rewarding ride up the port hills. Head down to Victoria Park and ride uphill on Dyers Pass Road to catch the vast landscapes. Head all the way east along the top of the hills to eventually reach the sea! Take plenty of stops along the way – there are many viewpoints to check out on the summit.

If you’re heading over from Central City, take Antigua Street and veer left onto Strickland Street. Continue south via Colombo Street to reach Dyer’s Pass Road. This road will take you up the elevation onto the port hills summit, trekking through Victoria Park. Before you reach the top, take a breath and stop by Sign of the Kiwi Cafe, where you can grab a bite to eat or a quick coffee for some extra caffeine. Let Summit Road lead the rest of your journey until you descend toward Sumner. Follow Wakefield Ave for a cathartic conclusion via Sumner Beach. The route will take you 28 kilometres with some extra points for the change in elevation.
